it is most likely a 2:73 we had used a mini spool in a 7.5 rear in a monte it lasted a yr before switching to a auburn diff

if your not in a hurry we will have a auburn pro diff,4:56 gears, and a rear aluminum diff cover forsale. The rear is no good as we cut the spring perches off.

that car got a 7.5 " ring gear - too small for any serious power - look at getting a 8.5 gn rearend

I had a couple 86-88 ss montes - stock rearend is the weakest link for sure

Montes came with 8.5 rearends too. Check out the tech section on the Malibu Racing web site for how to ID one. Also you can easily check your gear raito by marking a rear u-joint cap with some white out or yellow crayon .If you have a posi both rear wheels need to be off the ground if its a non-posi lift only one wheel off the ground . Now put the car in neutral and spin the tire around ONE revolution by hand [use the valve stem for easy reference] Count how many times the marked u-joint cap goes around for one tire revolution and you have your rear gear ratio .EXAMPLE cap turns 3 1/2 times 3.50 GEAR -cap turns 3 3/4 times 3.73 gear. EASY AS PIE.. Good luck Summit sells a kit for turning a non posi into a posi for short money also. Good luck.

342s are about as steep as you want to go without giving up highway cruising comfortably.

you could do a 200r4 4spd auto and go higher most likely but to put power to it would need to build it or stay with the th350 as it is a strong trans
