savageracer6969 is helping a bro get his Corvette roadworthy

As many of you know I bought my 1980 Corvette when I was 19 years old (over 10 years ago). It was my daily summer driver then and in the winter I would switch the plates to my old S10 Blazer. I drove the vette for a little over a year before I parked it in my dad’s garage and I moved Cali. A couple of years ago I pulled the vette out of storage and started getting it ready for the road again.

The first thing I did when I took it out of storage was send it to a local mechanic. The mechanic was recommended to me by friends, but later “un-recommended” by a friend, when his motor blew up right after the mechanic did a tune up to it. This guy charged me a hour labor for changing the battery, after I dropped over a thousand dollars at his shop. I should had known when I heard he lost his shitstang on pinks that he wasn’t going to be the right mechanic for me… He changed the plugs, wires, oil, oil filter, battery, starter, both rear brake calipers, brake master cylinder, carburetor and welded the tranny mount.

So next I worked on the car a little… For motor work, I installed a new heavy duty radiator, heavy duty water pump, fan/fan clutch, alternator, belts, hoses (including vacuum), and thermostat. For the exterior, I installed a new air dam, pulled the windshield out and repaired the rotted bird cage and painted it with rust bullet (SafeLite put a new windshield in) and replaced all the weather stripping. For the interior, I re-dyed the dash, installed all new center console and bezels, sanded the rust on the floors, painted it with rust bullet, fiberglassed them, installed 80 mil FatMat (like DynaMat), installed reflectix and new carpet (except for the passenger and driver’s side floors (cause car still has water leaks), rewired the radio and installed a new alarm system and rewired the shaved door handle kit.

Now it’s time for Manny to work his magic on her… Manny (AKA Savageracer6969) is installing a Crane Cam/Lifter kit 100172, Edelbrock Performer 7101 Intake, 1.5 Roller Rockers, replacing the Hooker Header Headers and Side Pipes, replacing the front brake calipers, brake master cylinder, headlight actuators, and adjusting or replacing the clutch (it slips now).

So far I'm pretty happy with the work Manny is doing. His prices for the work are very fair and his automotive skills are top notch. He's moving a lot faster on the work than I thought he would. He doesn't tell you that your car needs something until he knows it needs it. If anybody needs automotive work done to their ride, I highly recommend him.

When I bought the car the previous owner told me it had a Crane Cam, Dome Pistons, and an M-20 Stone Crusher trans in it. Honestly, always figured that he was just full of shit. But, Manny started tearing into the motor today and the Vette had a Crane Fireball 290H Cam... So, I'm starting to believe that the dome pistons and the Muncie M-20 might be true. Hopefully, Manny will find nubers on the tranny. He did note the block and head numbers for me... The good news is that the block is a 3970010 and the bad news is that the heads are 462624 (shitty heads). But I would prefer to have a good block over good heads... especially if the block has dome pistons. Plus, heads are easier to swap at a later date.

Nice work manny ..Rob looks good so far -no sludge build-up internally is a good sign. Glad to see you hooked up with a good & fair mechanic finally..To many guys out there just trying to make a fast buck on trusting car guys . Best of luck .(Cafefull doing burnouts with the vette- those halfshafts in the rearend are known to be a weak link.) Paul======

Good day guys!!! Saw and heard Manny magic today. Manny has gone above and beyond my expectations with my vette. I can't believe his attention to detail. It's awesome! He is so far beyond the hacks that have worked on my vette in the past. Not only does he have a ton of mechanical skill and knowledge, he's taking the time and putting in a lot of hard work to fix things right, replacing bolts, painting parts and adding chrome when ever he can.

THANK YOU MANNY!!!
