so far i've pulled the motor/trans. stripped the underhood wiring, the whole front clip came off to be replaced (picked up some killer used parts), and pulled everything off the firewall. i've also picked up the rear, stripped all the bracketry off of it, and picked up some used lakewood rear control arms to start my ladder bar project.
its a slow moving project, but when its done, i have high hopes for it.
got the holes in the firewall from the heater boxed covered up and seam sealed. Engine compartment almost ready for paint.
also got the driver's seat all modified and mounted so i can start putting in my subframe connectors and roll cage. its out of a GTP. black leather, power, heated bottom and back, air powered bolsters too!
im using kyb for shocks/struts. there really good and very afordable. for sfc i went with comp eng bolt ons, but im having mine welded in also. i have some black plastics if you need some. just let me know what parts you need. and a 3k stall might be a nice one. not to crazy and not to small. i also have a grey grant steering wheel with hub kit. just needs the horn wire. let me know if you need anything
the rear will have competition engineering coil overs with 150lb springs.
i'm thinking of going to with competition engineering drag struts with moroso trick drag springs up front.
the subframe connectors will be 2 1/4x2 1/4x.125 box tubing, using the competition engineering tranny cross-member brackets. (bought the weld in connectors a few years back for a different project, but never used them... cut the tubing off for something else.)
as far as the plastic goes, i have to actually inventory what i actually have in stock.
i need to update my first post with my plans... things have changed a little bit.
i got alot more work done, but forgot to take pics... i will be working more on it tomorrow, will get pics then.
and yes, i know, the floor pan patch i put in is beat to sin... who cares? it fits, it covers the hole, it gets undercoated from underneath, and carpet on top.
the worst part? i called BOTH competition engineering AND Summit to try and find out where the main hoop mounting plates are supposed to go. The BOTH said on the floor between the door jamb and the rear seat... i couldnt believe it. if you look, you can see that the floor in that area is floating 2" above anything with structural strength. freakin retards.
FedEx man dropped off 16 feet of 2x3 boxed tubing today... gotta pick up a spare 2lb welding spool, fill the backup argon tank, a couple sheets of sheet metal, and hopefully this floor/sub frame connectors will be done in the next 2 weeks.
started building the subrame connector for the right side today... the plan for the weekend is to have the subframe connectors complete, the roll cage's main hoop tacked into place, locate the mounting points for the rest of the cage and mount the plates, and try and get some of the floor pans done.
got a bit of work done this weekend... restored an unmatched pair of tail lights, and got 3 out of 4 sections of the floor pans done... before you laugh about the messy seam sealer, remember... you can't see it when the carpet covers it...
Also had to invert the corner on the subframe connector. i mounted the seat before the connectors were in. this one hit, and now it does not.
parts came in yesterday, hoping to have the k member stripped, painted, motor mounts installed, and back in the car by monday... would also (going out on a limb here) like to have the control arms sandblasted, the bushings and ball joints changed, painted, and hanging in place too... we'll see what happens. been pretty tied up all week with "side" work, which has been digging into my play time
