got some more work done friday, while dodging rain drops...

removed the spare tire carrier:

Relocated tire inside:

utf-8BSU1HLTIwMTEwNjEwLTAwMDQ5LmpwZw.jpg

also pulled the roof rack off:

A little bodywork and this thing will be ready for maaco...biggrin

Before it goes to maaco, i'll build the hood and i'll probably pick up to new front fenders too.

I also finally ordered the 3" block kit for the rear, picked up 2 used front tires for the camaro wheels, and ordered my Gentex 177 Rearview mirror with all the necessary wiring. (autodim, compass, temp, non onstar/homelink/airbag)

No LS1... If anything it'd get a 350... But that's after everything else is done, and the AWD setup is in and working.

spent a better part of saturday changing the rear wheel studs to longer ones and swapping the u-joints in the rear driveshaft. i still get a vibration around 60mph, and i got this god aweful squeek coming out of the back of the truck... can't find it for the life of me.

I think i may be all done with this thing for quite some time. its eating away at my money and time, and forcing me into a mental state i'd rather not be in.

Thanks for the compliments guys, if i do end up picking the project back up, i'll be sure to let you guys know.

the vibration is probably because of the pinion angle from lowering it or a bad bearing in the t-case

the vibration was there before the drop/wheels/tires. it was bad then, and when i balanced the tires SOME of it went away, so i just figured the old low tread dryrotted tires were causing it.

now that its dropped, your right, the pinion angle could be causing it. i have 3" lowering blocks that are milled at an angle to "correct" the pinion angle, but i am unsure the the angle, or if they are even installed facing the proper way.

Whoa! Whats this? Custom 1-off "Big Brakes"?

As with any s10, the trucks get an awful case of "Brake Fade" with age.  I honestly can't stand it. Here in the 4x4 S Series scene, there isnt much support for aftermarket brakes.  Alot of guys swap on stock '99+ dual piston setups, but its not quite the improvement I am looking for. I live my life with one thing in mind. "If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing."

I picked up a set of Junkyard '99 Dual Piston knuckles, as they use a removeable caliper bracket.  Tore them down, cleaned them up in the parts washer, and started mocking things up.  I am using the cheapest parts/used parts STRICTLY for mock up. Everything will be new and/or uprgaded.

utf-8BSU1HLTIwMTEwOTI0LTAwMTIwLmpwZw.jpg

Test fit the '99 Camaro 12" rotor on the hub assembly to ensure proper fitment.

utf-8BSU1HLTIwMTEwOTI0LTAwMTE4LmpwZw.jpg

utf-8BSU1HLTIwMTEwOTI0LTAwMTE5LmpwZw.jpg

Slipped the stock '99 S10 caliper/pads into place. You can see the pads really don't have enough contact on the rotor, and you can see the caliper bracket doesn't reach the stock bolt holes any longer.

utf-8BSU1HLTIwMTEwOTI0LTAwMTIxLmpwZw.jpg

utf-8BSU1HLTIwMTEwOTI0LTAwMTIyLmpwZw.jpg

Picked up a new '99 Camaro caliper and bracket and some pads. Had to trim the mounting bosses to clear the knuckle. Once that was done, I called it a day, and wont get back to it till next week.

utf-8BSU1HLTIwMTEwOTI0LTAwMTIzLmpwZw.jpg

This pic is before the trimming.  Didn't take enough, it's gotta go back in for a little more. Once i get the fit I am looking for, I will start fabbing the adapter brackets.

The Front Setup will be:

-12" Drilled/Slotted '99 Camaro Front Rotors

-Stock '99 Camaro Calipers with Ceramic Pads

-Wilwood SS Front Brake Hoses for '99 Camaro

-'99 S10 Steering Knuckle and Hub Bearing

-Custom Fabbed Adapter Brackets for the Caliper Mounts

The Rear Setup will be:

-'99 S10 4x4 Posi Disk Brake Rear

-11.6" Drilled/Slotted Rear Rotors (Stock Dia.)

-Stock '99 S10 Rear Calipers with Ceramic Pads

-Wilwood SS Center Brake Hose for '99 S10

I will also be running an adustable Proportioning valve, stock emergency brake, and stock ABS setup.

I have not been able to find this done anywhere else, I am taking 100% credit for the thought, design, labor, and outcome. This setup will not clear a 15" wheel, and the origional design of c5 brakes wont clear my current wheels, and is far to expensive.

stock s10 front rotors are roughly 10.5" in diameter. I am going from a 10.5" rotor and single piston caliper with rear drum, to a 12" rotor with dual piston caliper with rear disc. I foresee a bent steering wheel and bruised forehead in my future.
